The Elmwood curriculum is planned in such a way to ensure cohesion, coverage and creativity. The curriculum is based on the National Curriculum objectives. Teachers are expected to consider the whole year as a learning journey first. This enables teachers to link and plan individual lessons with a clear integrated annual learning journey. This ensure coverage and to spot useful links and trip planning across the whole academic year. Termly plans take guidance from the board strokes of the yearly plan, however objectives for lessons are planned to ensure that teachers do not run out of time. Exciting and memorable exit points conclude a term’s learning with a key purpose so that children can demonstrate what they’ve learnt.

Weekly planning is in the form of lesson slides. They need to be personalised by class teachers to fit the individual needs of each class.

Individual lesson plans must include:

• The learning objective turned into a question so children are expected to respond and self assess.
• Prior and next learning are indicated so children understand the learning journey
• Key vocabulary is always included (taken from knowledge organisers)
• Purpose – the reason for the learning in each lesson needs to be explicit.
