Year 6 Pupil Voice
As our Year 6 students prepare to take their next exciting steps into secondary school, they share their favourite memories, celebrated achievements, and reflections on what makes Elmwood Junior School such a special, safe, and inspiring place to learn.
🌍 A Welcoming & Diverse Community
“My favourite thing about this school is its diversity. Students from many different backgrounds come together, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone has the opportunity to learn from one another.”
“Honestly, this has been the best year ever in school. I am pretty sad how I will leave this school—the school that was like a safe to all my memories. Elmwood is a great place that makes you grow and makes you better.”
🎓 Inspiring & Patient Teachers
“I have been very fortunate to be able to attend this incredible school. My teacher made my year one of the best I have had. We learnt about World War 1 and 2, and I could ask more than 20 questions and my teacher would answer every single one with a type of patience I have never seen in a teacher.”
“My favourite parts of Year 6 were all the fun, memorable trips, the interesting, informative lessons and the amazing, helpful teachers whom I will never forget. I will miss my unforgettable teachers because they have been there for me whenever I need help and they always lift my mood.”
“I have been very fortunate to have a teacher who has supported and encouraged us throughout the year. I’ll deeply miss the teachers, the LSAs, and mostly everything about the school I’m currently in.”
📈 Overcoming Obstacles & Growing in Confidence
“I have most improved my confidence and how good my writing now is. Before I was mostly quiet in class and didn’t contribute, but now I put my hand up and try to answer the question even if I get it wrong. I try as hard as I can to put everything I have learnt into my writing.”
“At the beginning of the year, I sometimes found it difficult to use punctuation and grammar correctly, but through practice and feedback, I have become much more confident… These improvements have helped me become a better and more confident writer overall.”
“I have made a lot of progress in English and in my confidence: my class has been really supportive, making me grow my confidence like a tree sprout. Every single one of my experiences have helped me grow as a person, being more curious.”
🎭 Memorable Trips, Productions & Lessons
“During Year 6 we went on numerous trips and one of the best was the London trip because we got to go on the London Eye and we watched Hercules in a theatre—it was a brilliant experience! I also loved the residential because I got to try new activities, spend time with my friends, and make great memories.”
“My highlights of the year have been taking part in the school production. I enjoyed performing in front of an audience and working with my classmates to make the production a success. I especially loved the Year 6 production of Shrek because it was very enjoyable and it really uplifted our confidence in the auditions.”
“I have really enjoyed this year and learning Maths because I like solving problems and challenging myself. My favourite book that we read this year was Letters from the Lighthouse because I enjoyed the story and learning about what life was like during World War II, and Wild Boy because the plot was full of mystery and suspense!”
Looking Forward to Secondary School & Beyond
“I am looking forward to building my confidence, making new friendships, and experiencing a new life in secondary school. I am excited to meet new people, learn new skills, and take on new challenges that will help me grow and become more independent. I know I will have as much of a lovely time in Year 7 than I did in Year 6. I will miss Elmwood with all my heart.”
